The premise
The erotic novelist Taeko is writing a morbid story of a family destroyed by incest, murder and abuse. Her assistant, Yuji, sets on a mission to uncover the reality of this story, but the reality might be too much to bear.

Her assistant becomes obsessed with excavating the truth behind the manuscript, descending into a labyrinth of guilt, identity, and buried horror. Director Sion Sono constructs a visceral fever dream that refuses to play by conventional narrative rules, layering shock imagery with genuine psychological menace. This is Japanese extreme cinema at its most confrontational and emotionally demanding.
