The premise
A "metal fetishist", driven mad by the maggots wriggling in the wound he's made to embed metal into his flesh, runs out into the night and is accidentally run down by a Japanese businessman and his girlfriend. The pair dispose of the corpse in hopes of quietly moving on with their lives. However, the businessman soon finds that he is now plagued by a vicious curse that transforms his flesh into iron.

A Japanese salaryman's ordered life begins to collapse in grotesque fashion when his body starts merging with metal in increasingly horrifying ways. Director Shinya Tsukamoto shoots this ultra-low-budget nightmare in punishing black-and-white, layering industrial noise, stop-motion mayhem, and visceral imagery into something closer to a fever dream than conventional narrative. Rooted in cyberpunk anxiety, the film questions where the human body ends and the machine begins — and whether that boundary was ever worth protecting. Unforgettable and deeply unsettling, it remains one of extreme cinema's most singular visions.
