The premise

This zany send-up of teen slasher flicks features a maniacal psycho known as the Breather, who stalks –and murders– promiscuous students at a suburban high school. The fanatical killer's unusual weapons include paper clips, blackboard erasers and eggplants.

Horror Vault's take

Before Scream made meta-horror mainstream, Student Bodies was skewering slasher clichés with gleeful, low-budget absurdity. A heavy-breathing maniac dubbed the Breather terrorizes a suburban high school, picking off romantically adventurous teens with the most ridiculous weapons imaginable — think eggplants and paper clips rather than knives. It's a loving, anarchic roast of the early-80s slasher boom that never takes itself seriously for a single frame. Fans of horror comedy will find plenty of groan-worthy gags and surprisingly sharp genre observations tucked inside the mayhem.
