The premise
A young woman is questioned by the police and the judges, suspected of being a modern witch. The girl who shared her apartment has been found dead, and a pair of scissors impaled through her heart, as she lay attached to the bedposts. Apparently, the girl does have powers, to make all people around her fall prey to her spell, glissing progressively into desire, lust, and the unknown.

When a young woman's roommate is found dead under disturbing circumstances, she becomes the prime suspect in a police and judicial investigation — yet those who interrogate her seem inexorably drawn under her influence. Alain Robbe-Grillet's 1974 art-house provocation blurs the line between crime procedural and fever dream, wrapping its murder mystery in layers of eroticism and occult suggestion. Every encounter the enigmatic suspect has seems to bend the will of those around her, raising the question of whether her power is real, psychological, or something altogether stranger.
