The premise

Curtis LaForche is a devoted Ohio family man whose nights are overtaken by visceral, storm-soaked visions that feel too real to dismiss. As he pours money and obsessive energy into expanding the backyard storm shelter, those closest to him begin to wonder whether he's preparing for disaster — or becoming one. Director Jeff Nichols crafts a suffocating slow-burn that keeps viewers perpetually off-balance, never quite sure whether Curtis is a prophet or a man coming apart at the seams. Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain deliver powerhouse performances that anchor the film's mounting, deeply human dread.
