The premise
An attorney arrives at a castle to settle the estate of its recently deceased owner. The owner's wife and daughter reveal that he was someone who was able to summon the souls of ancient plague victims and, in fact, his spirit was roaming the castle at that very moment. Soon occupants of the castle begin to die off in gruesome, violent ways.
Horror Vault's take
When a lawyer travels to a remote castle to handle a dead man's estate, he quickly discovers that the deceased may not be as gone as everyone assumed. The man's widow and daughter speak in hushed, fearful tones of their husband and father's strange ability to commune with the souls of plague victims long dead — and something in the castle seems to confirm their dread. As guests and inhabitants begin meeting violent ends, the line between the world of the living and the realm of the dead grows dangerously thin. Barbara Steele anchors this atmospheric Italian Gothic chiller with her trademark mix of beauty and unease.
