The premise
Father and son coroners receive a mysterious unidentified corpse with no apparent cause of death. As they attempt to examine the "Jane Doe," they discover increasingly bizarre clues that hold the key to her terrifying secrets.
Horror Vault's take
When a father-and-son coroner team receives an unidentified female corpse with no visible cause of death, a routine late-night autopsy quickly spirals into something deeply disturbing. Each incision reveals impossible contradictions — a body that defies medical logic and hints at a dark, ancient history. Trapped in their basement morgue as a storm rages outside, the two men must confront mounting dread as Jane Doe refuses to give up her secrets easily. Director André Øvredal crafts a masterclass in slow-burn tension from an almost unbearably confined setting.
