The premise
Julia, a governess, comes to work for a bourgeois family that lives in a forested property they have recently bought. Julia is to take care of a little girl named Silvia, whose unusual demeanor may find its roots in the family garden.

When Julia takes a governess position with a well-to-do family newly settled on a wooded estate in Mexico, she quickly senses something deeply wrong with her young charge, Silvia. The girl's strange, withdrawn behavior seems bound to the property itself — and particularly to something lurking within the garden. A gothic atmosphere of creeping dread builds as Julia digs beneath the surface of this seemingly respectable household, finding that the estate's history may hold answers she isn't sure she wants.
