The premise

Boston is being terrorized by a series of seemingly random murders of women. Based on the true story, the film follows the investigators path through several leads before introducing the Strangler as a character. It is seen almost exclusively from the point of view of the investigators who have very few clues to build a case upon.

Horror Vault's take

Boston is gripped by fear as women fall victim to a shadowy killer whose pattern defies easy profiling. Richard Fleischer's 1968 thriller reconstructs the real-life manhunt through the eyes of the exhausted detectives piecing together a near-invisible trail of evidence. The film's bold visual style — including an inventive split-screen technique — mirrors the fractured, disorienting nature of the case itself. A powerhouse cast anchors this cold, methodical descent into one of America's most disturbing true-crime sagas.
