When the only survivor of a catastrophic caving expedition resurfaces in a state of shock and silence, authorities refuse to accept that what lurks beneath the Appalachian mountains defies explanation. Forced back underground alongside a skeptical rescue team, she must confront both the horrors that claimed her companions and the limits of her own fractured mind. The tunnels are just as suffocating and unforgiving as before — and whatever hunts in the dark has not gone anywhere.
