The premise
A schoolteacher moves into her deceased aunt’s house in a small Californian town, and is harassed by unfriendly locals and a mysterious hearse.

After a personal breakdown, a schoolteacher retreats to her late aunt's rural California home hoping for a fresh start — only to find the tight-knit locals deeply unwelcoming and something far stranger lurking on the roads at night. A menacing black hearse begins appearing with unnerving regularity, and the house itself seems to carry secrets her aunt took to the grave. Equal parts Gothic mood piece and supernatural mystery, The Hearse builds its unease slowly through atmosphere and small-town paranoia rather than outright shock. Fans of understated early-80s horror will find plenty to unsettle them here.
