The premise
Failed architect, engineer and vicious murderer Jack narrates the details of some of his most elaborately orchestrated crimes, each of them a towering piece of art that defines his life's work as a serial killer for twelve years.
Horror Vault's take
Over the span of twelve years, a failed architect with grandiose self-regard recounts a series of meticulously staged killings he considers his greatest artistic achievements. Director Lars von Trier frames the film as a darkly philosophical dialogue, forcing viewers to sit inside the mind of a man who finds beauty in brutality. Equal parts crime chronicle and descent into something far more infernal, the film challenges audiences to confront what separates art from atrocity. Relentlessly provocative and visually audacious, it is not a film that asks for your comfort.
