The premise

London. A mysterious serial killer brutally murders young blond women by stalking them in the night fog. One foggy, sinister night, a young man who claims his name is Jonathan Drew arrives at the guest house run by the Bunting family and rents a room.

Horror Vault's take

In fog-shrouded Victorian London, a shadowy serial killer preys on young blond women, and the city grips itself in fear. When a brooding, enigmatic stranger takes a room in a respectable family's boarding house, his odd habits and unsettling manner set imaginations — and accusations — running wild. Alfred Hitchcock's landmark silent thriller showcases his already razor-sharp instinct for suspense and moral ambiguity. Whether the lodger is predator or victim of circumstance is a question that coils around every frame.
