The premise

For cynical tabloid journo Richard Dees, facts are always stranger than fiction. Every headline is a dead-line. Serial killers, UFO abductions, tales of molestation, mayhem and murder. To some the tales are mere sleazy fantasy – but his faithful readers believe. And now there's a new story: The Night Flier. What is it that travels by night in a dark-winged Cessna, lands at secluded airfields and murders local residents? Dees begins to track the unknown killer in a Cessna of his own, uncovering clues that reveal a pilot more terrifying than he could have ever imagined.

Horror Vault's take

A hard-bitten tabloid reporter with a nose for the grotesque latches onto a story that may be the biggest—and most dangerous—of his career: a lone pilot whose nocturnal landings at remote airstrips leave trails of blood and bodies. Richard Dees pursues the trail across isolated airports, slowly realizing that whatever is at the controls of that dark Cessna defies every rational explanation he has ever leaned on. Based on a Stephen King short story, this adaptation leans into atmosphere and character over spectacle, using Dees's moral bankruptcy as much as its creature to unsettle the viewer. The deeper he digs, the less certain he becomes about what he will find—or whether he should.
