The premise

Prequel to the Henry James classic "Turn of the Screw" about the events leading up to the deaths of Peter Quint and Ms. Jessel, and the slow corruption of the children in their care.

Horror Vault's take

Set before the events of Henry James's chilling ghost story 'The Turn of the Screw,' this gothic prequel explores the darkly magnetic relationship between groundskeeper Peter Quint and governess Miss Jessel — and the sinister influence it casts over the two children in their care. Marlon Brando commands the screen as the brooding, unpredictable Quint, whose twisted games begin to warp the children's understanding of love, death, and morality. As obsession and cruelty deepen within the walls of a remote country mansion, innocence slowly and irreversibly erodes. It's a deeply unsettling character study that reframes a classic tale of horror through a lens of psychological and sexual darkness.
