The People Who Own the Dark1976
“Now ... there is nothing between you and ... "the people who own the dark"”
Directed by León Klimovsky
The premise
A group of rich businessmen and military officers who are partying in an old castle are spared when a nuclear war ravages the earth. When they venture out into the nearest town to search for food and supplies, they find most of the residents blinded, and soon they discover the existence of a sinister group called The People Who Own The Dark.
Horror Vault's take
When a nuclear catastrophe tears the world apart, a privileged gathering of elites sheltered inside a remote castle emerge to find civilization in ruins and the local populace grotesquely changed. What begins as a desperate scramble for resources quickly curdles into something far more threatening, as the survivors realize the blinded masses outside may not be the most dangerous thing hunting them. This Spanish genre entry blends post-apocalyptic dread with siege-horror tension, delivering a cynical portrait of wealth and power crumbling under existential pressure. The castle walls that once symbolized exclusivity become a fragile last line of defense.
