The premise

Sir James Forbes arrives in a remote Cornish village to identify a mysterious plague afflicting the population. He discovers that one of the squires is a disciple of Haitian witchcraft and using dark magic to resurrect the dead. As the plan to create undead servants unravels, the squire unleashes his zombie army on the unsuspecting village.

Horror Vault's take

A distinguished physician travels to a fog-draped Cornish village where the locals are dying at an alarming and inexplicable rate. What begins as a medical mystery soon plunges into far darker territory, as ancient Haitian rituals and a ruthless local authority appear to be connected to the strange epidemic. Hammer Film Productions brings its signature Gothic atmosphere to bear on a tale where the living and the dead are equally at the mercy of those who hold power. This 1966 classic remains one of the studio's most atmospheric and underrated entries.
