The premise

Three young backpackers venturing through the remote Australian outback find themselves stranded and at the mercy of a cheerful stranger whose hospitality masks something deeply sinister. Inspired by real events, Wolf Creek strips away any sense of safety that comes with wide open spaces, replacing it with suffocating dread. Director Greg McLean builds an uncomfortably naturalistic atmosphere before unleashing a villain — brought to chilling life by John Jarratt — who has become one of horror's most genuinely terrifying antagonists.
