The premise
Jen and a group of friends set out to hike the Appalachian Trail. Despite warnings to stick to the trail, the hikers stray off course—and cross into land inhabited by The Foundation, a hidden community of mountain dwellers who use deadly means to protect their way of life.

When Jen and her friends venture off the Appalachian Trail, they stumble into territory fiercely guarded by The Foundation — a secretive, self-sufficient mountain community with its own brutal code of justice. What begins as an adventurous hike quickly spirals into a desperate fight for survival against an enemy that doesn't play by any rules they recognize. This 2021 reboot trades the original's mutant-hillbilly formula for something far more ideologically unsettling, grounding its horror in human conviction rather than simple monstrosity. The result is a backwoods nightmare that lingers in the mind long after the credits roll.
