The premise
To debunk the Amityville house's infamous reputation and take advantage of a rock-bottom asking price, skeptical journalist John Baxter buys the place and settles in to write his first novel.
Horror Vault's take
A cynical journalist snaps up the notorious Amityville house at a bargain price, convinced the dark legends surrounding it are nothing more than profitable myth. As he settles in to work on his book, the property begins to suggest that some reputations are earned. The third entry in the franchise leans into its era with gimmicky 3-D visuals, but beneath the spectacle lurks a familiar and creeping dread. Fans of the classic haunted-house cycle will find a serviceable, if uneven, chapter in the long-running series.
