The premise
George Lutz, his wife Kathy, and their three children have just moved into a beautiful, and improbably cheap, Dutch colonial mansion nestled in the sleepy coastal town of Amityville, Long Island. However, their dream home is concealing a horrific past and soon each member of the Lutz family is plagued with increasingly strange and violent visions and impulses.

When the Lutz family snags an impossibly affordable Long Island mansion, the bargain quickly reveals its gruesome price tag. Strange visions, violent impulses, and an overwhelming sense of malevolence begin tearing the household apart from the inside out. This 2005 remake of the infamous based-on-a-true-story haunting cranks up the intensity and visceral dread, leaning on Ryan Reynolds's increasingly unhinged performance to drive home the horror. The walls of 112 Ocean Avenue have never felt more suffocating.
