Angst1983
“Based on a true story.”
Directed by Gerald Kargl
The premise
A killer is released from prison and breaks into a remote home to kill a woman, her handicapped son and her pretty daughter.
Horror Vault's take
Told largely through the fractured inner monologue of a deeply disturbed man freshly released from prison, Angst plunges viewers into the mind of a killer as he descends on an isolated family home. Austrian director Gerald Kargl crafts a relentlessly uncomfortable character study that keeps the camera uncomfortably close to its subject, refusing to look away. The film is less interested in conventional thriller mechanics than in the raw, nauseating texture of compulsion and violence itself — a study in dread that lingers long after the final frame.
