Bates Motel1987
“There's always room for one more.”
Directed by Richard Rothstein
The premise
A mentally disturbed man who roomed with the late Norman Bates at a psychiatric facility inherits the infamous Bates Motel after his death and attempts to fix it up as a respectable business.
Horror Vault's take
When a troubled man inherits the notoriously cursed Bates Motel from his deceased asylum roommate Norman Bates, he sets out to rehabilitate both the property and his own life. The crumbling motel carries more baggage than any renovation budget can fix, and the shadows of its bloody past refuse to stay buried. This made-for-TV anthology pilot blends dark humor with genuine unease as an ensemble of eccentric guests checks in — each bringing their own desperate story. It's a strange, melancholic spin-off that reimagines Hitchcock's iconic location as a waystation for lost souls.
