The premise
A lonely teenage horror fan and video gamer plays a new immersive and hypnotic computer game where he becomes a psychopathic killer, but when he emerges, he finds that the murder has actually happened.
Horror Vault's take
A socially withdrawn teenager obsessed with horror stumbles onto a cutting-edge computer game that promises the ultimate first-person thrill — becoming a killer. When the line between the virtual and the real begins to collapse, he finds himself entangled in a nightmare he can't simply switch off. Edward Furlong anchors this mid-90s cult item as the rattled protagonist, while T. Ryder Smith delivers a memorably unhinged supporting turn. Brainscan taps into era-defining anxieties about violent media and the seductive pull of technology.
