The premise

The Candyman, a murderous soul with a hook for a hand, is accidentally summoned to reality by a skeptic grad student researching the monster's myth.

Horror Vault's take

In the decaying Chicago housing projects, a graduate student researching urban folklore digs too deep into the legend of the Candyman — a hook-handed supernatural killer said to appear when his name is spoken five times in a mirror. What begins as academic curiosity quickly blurs the line between myth and terrifying reality. Tony Todd's commanding presence makes the Candyman one of horror's most haunting and complex villains, elevated further by Philip Glass's iconic score. This is prestige horror that lingers long after the credits roll.
