The premise

Cannibal is based on the true-crime story of Armin Meiwes, the "Rotenburg Cannibal" who posted an online ad searching for someone to volunteer to be mutilated and eaten. Unlikely as it may seem, someone actually replied. The film shows a fictional portrayal of the meeting between the cannibal and his victim/participant, their homosexual relationship, and the eventual mutilation and murder of said victim.

Horror Vault's take

Drawn from one of Germany's most notorious true-crime cases, Cannibal explores the deeply unsettling relationship that forms between a man who advertises online for a willing victim and the stranger who answers his call. The film takes a slow, unflinching look at the psychological and emotional territory between two people bound by a profoundly disturbing agreement. Less a conventional thriller than a meditative character study, it lingers in the spaces where desire, loneliness, and depravity converge. Viewers seeking easy answers or redemptive arcs will find none here.
