The premise
Monika lives with Rob, a corpse she loves. Her dilemma intensifies when she meets Mark and considers a normal life with him. She must choose between her affection for Rob and a new relationship.
Horror Vault's take
A woman who finds intimacy in the most transgressive of places is thrown into crisis when a living man enters her life and offers something resembling a conventional relationship. Director Jörg Buttgereit returns with a more psychologically layered follow-up to his notorious debut, trading some of its raw shock value for a queasy, melancholic examination of desire and dependency. The film lingers in deeply uncomfortable territory, refusing to flinch or moralize as it charts its protagonist's increasingly untenable double life. Fans of extreme European arthouse horror will find this a more formally ambitious entry than its predecessor.
