The premise

A dangerously disturbed Vietnam veteran struggles with life 15 years after his return home, and slowly falls into insanity from his gritty urban lifestyle.

Horror Vault's take

Fifteen years after Vietnam, a broken veteran drifts through the rotting underbelly of New York City, haunted by flashbacks and trapped in a cycle of poverty, drugs, and mounting despair. Troma's gritty 1986 cult entry plays less like a traditional horror film and more like a descent — a raw, unrelenting portrait of a man whose grip on sanity is slipping one miserable day at a time. Shot on a shoestring budget across the streets of Staten Island, it captures urban squalor with an almost documentary intensity. Not for the faint of heart, this is extreme cinema that uses horror as a lens for social criticism.
