Horror Vault's take

From the minds behind Evil Dead, Crimewave is a hyper-stylized, cartoonishly violent romp through a world where bumbling hitmen-slash-exterminators leave an absurd trail of destruction in their wake. Told in frantic flashback by a man strapped to the electric chair, the film plays like a Looney Tunes short filtered through a grindhouse lens. Sam Raimi's signature kinetic camerawork collides with the Coen Brothers' sharp writing sensibility to produce something genuinely unlike anything else from the era. Equal parts slapstick and splatter, it's a fever dream of bad luck, worse people, and gleefully over-the-top carnage.
