The premise

Vincent Price is on magnificent, scenery-devouring form as a grandiose Shakespearean actor who refuses to let a panel of dismissive critics have the last word. Each elaborate murder pays grotesque homage to the Bard's own death scenes, turning London into a blood-soaked stage. Diana Rigg matches Price beat for beat as his fiercely loyal accomplice, and the film revels in its own outrageous showmanship. Equal parts Grand Guignol horror and jet-black comedy, it remains one of the most gleefully inventive revenge pictures of the 1970s.
