The premise
A man's obsession with owning the designer deerskin jacket of his dreams leads him to turn his back on his humdrum life in the suburbs, blow his life savings, and even turn him to crime.

A middle-aged divorcee becomes pathologically fixated on a single piece of outerwear — a supple deerskin jacket — and what begins as an eccentric midlife crisis quietly curdles into something far more dangerous. Set against the stark beauty of the French Alps, director Quentin Dupieux crafts a deadpan descent into one man's unraveling sense of self. Jean Dujardin plays the increasingly untethered protagonist with an unsettling mix of charm and mania, while Adèle Haenel grounds the film as a bartender drawn into his warped orbit. Equal parts dry comedy and creeping dread, this is genre filmmaking that refuses to play by anyone's rules.
