The premise

Whilst vacationing in the Carpathian Mountain, two couples stumble across the remains of Count Dracula's castle. The Count's trusted servant kills one of the men, suspending the body over the Count's ashes so that the blood drips from the corpse and saturates the blackened remains. The ritual is completed, the Count revived and his attentions focus on the dead man's wife who is to become his partner; devoted to an existence of depravity and evil.

Horror Vault's take

Two unsuspecting couples touring the remote Carpathian Mountains find themselves drawn toward the ruins of a forbidding castle — a place with a very dark history. What begins as an ill-advised detour quickly spirals into a desperate fight for survival as an ancient evil stirs once more. Christopher Lee commands the screen as the Count, menacing and magnetic in one of Hammer Horror's most celebrated entries. Fans of old-world Gothic dread will find plenty to savour in the fog-laden corridors and blood-soaked rituals on offer here.
