A petty criminal thinks he has the upper hand when he seizes a remote French chateau and its two young women as leverage — but as darkness descends and a procession of elegant, enigmatic guests arrives, the balance of power begins to shift in deeply unnerving ways. Director Jean Rollin weaves his signature blend of dreamlike imagery and creeping menace through an increasingly tense night that is far more dangerous than it first appears. Erotic atmosphere and slow-burn dread share the screen in equal measure, building toward a climax that cements Fascination as one of Rollin's most accomplished works.
