Guinea Pig Part 5: Android of Notre Dame1989
Directed by Kazuhito Kuramoto
The premise
A dwarf scientist has his dreams frustrated when his sister becomes seriously ill. Determined to find a way to preserve the essence of his sister after the death, the scientist begins to use humans as guinea pigs in a bizarre experiment.
Horror Vault's take
A tormented dwarf scientist watches helplessly as his beloved sister succumbs to a devastating illness, and his grief curdles into something far more dangerous. Driven by a desperate desire to cheat death, he turns his laboratory into a chamber of horrors, recruiting unwilling human subjects for experiments that blur the line between salvation and atrocity. Android of Notre Dame is the most emotionally grounded entry in the notorious Guinea Pig series, wrapping its extreme content in a tragic, Frankenstein-esque character study. Viewers with strong stomachs will find a bleak meditation on love pushed past all moral boundaries.
