The premise
A divorced horror novelist coming to terms with the disappearance of his young son inherits an old mansion home to malevolent supernatural residents.

When a struggling horror novelist inherits his aunt's sprawling old mansion, he hopes the solitude will help him finish his latest book and make sense of his shattered personal life. What he finds instead are the house's decidedly unwelcome supernatural occupants, whose torments seem disturbingly tied to his own unresolved demons. Blending genuine scares with a streak of dark comedy, the film walks a tightrope between haunted-house thrills and a Vietnam veteran's psychological reckoning. It's a crowd-pleasing 80s horror romp with more emotional weight lurking beneath its monster-filled surface than first appearances suggest.
