A cocky American author accepts a wild wager: hole up alone in a crumbling Welsh manor and produce a masterpiece novel in a single night. What he finds instead is that the supposedly deserted estate is anything but empty, as a procession of increasingly strange figures emerge from the shadows. Part Gothic chiller, part knowing comedy, the film revels in its own creaky atmosphere while showcasing one of horror cinema's most legendary ensemble casts. Fans of classic horror royalty will find this a rare treat of wit and dread in equal measure.
