The premise

Kyung-chul is a dangerous psychopath who kills for pleasure. Soo-hyeon, a top-secret agent, decides to track down the murderer himself. He promises himself that he will do everything in his power to take vengeance against the killer, even if it means that he must become a monster himself.

Horror Vault's take

When a vicious serial killer shatters the life of a special agent, the grieving man launches a calculated, ruthless vendetta that goes far beyond simple justice. Director Kim Jee-woon crafts a visceral South Korean thriller that forces viewers to question where righteous fury ends and monstrosity begins. The hunter and the hunted are locked in a punishing game of escalation, and the line between them grows increasingly hard to find. It is a film as much about what revenge does to the avenger as it is about bringing a predator to heel.
