The premise
The residents of San Francisco are becoming drone-like shadows of their former selves, and as the phenomenon spreads, two Department of Health workers uncover the horrifying truth.

San Francisco is quietly coming undone — neighbors, colleagues, and lovers seem subtly, inexplicably wrong, stripped of something essentially human. Two Department of Health workers find themselves at the center of a creeping urban nightmare that no one in authority seems willing to believe. Director Philip Kaufman's landmark remake trades small-town dread for a cold, metropolitan unease that feels disturbingly plausible. With a standout ensemble including Donald Sutherland, Jeff Goldblum, and Leonard Nimoy, this is paranoid sci-fi horror operating at its most suffocating.
