The premise
An unhappy middle-aged banker agrees to a procedure that will fake his death and give him a completely new look and identity; one that comes with its own price.
Horror Vault's take
A disillusioned middle-aged banker is drawn into the web of a shadowy organization that promises a radical second chance at life — complete with a surgically altered face and an entirely new identity. What seems like an escape from quiet desperation soon reveals itself to be something far more sinister and inescapable. Shot in stark, expressionistic black and white, the film builds a creeping paranoia that burrows under the skin. Director John Frankenheimer crafts one of American cinema's most haunting meditations on the terror of becoming someone else.
