When probation officer Cathy Madden is assigned to reintegrate a notorious convicted killer known as 'Bloody' Mary Laidlaw after twenty years behind bars, she quickly senses that something far darker than a troubled past clings to her charge. Set against the bleak, foreboding landscapes of rural Ireland, the film draws on folk horror traditions to blur the line between criminal menace and something genuinely otherworldly. Cathy's professional instincts are pushed to their limits as the case forces her to confront forces she is wholly unprepared for. What begins as a tense character study steadily unravels into a deeply unsettling confrontation with ancient, malevolent power.
