Horror Vault's take

When a mysterious object crashes outside a quiet small town, an alien parasite begins working its way through the population — leaving a trail of grotesque transformations in its wake. Grant Grant (Michael Rooker) is among the first to fall under its influence, and his wife Starla (Elizabeth Banks) and local sheriff Bill Pardy (Nathan Fillion) are left scrambling to contain the spreading horror. Director James Gunn delivers a love letter to '80s creature features, balancing genuinely stomach-churning practical effects with sharp comic timing. What starts as a slow creep quickly escalates into full-on chaos as the infected numbers grow and the mutations become increasingly outrageous.
