The Borderlands2014
“Evil has a new form.”
Directed by Elliot Goldner
The premise
Vatican investigators are sent to the British West Country to investigate paranormal activity, and they find the events are more disturbing than they first imagined.
Horror Vault's take
When the Vatican dispatches a team of investigators to a remote English church reporting miraculous — or perhaps sinister — phenomena, what begins as routine ecclesial paperwork quickly unravels into something far older and far darker than Christianity itself. Captured through the team's own helmet cameras and surveillance rigs, the film wrings genuine unease from the friction between a cynical technician and a devout priest forced to confront the limits of their respective worldviews. The West Country setting feels oppressively ancient, its rolling countryside hiding secrets that predate any modern faith. Few found-footage films commit so fully to a slow-burn dread that pays off with one of the genre's most memorably harrowing finales.
