The premise

Baron Victor Frankenstein has discovered life's secret and unleashed a blood-curdling chain of events resulting from his creation: a cursed creature with a horrid face — and a tendency to kill.

Horror Vault's take

Baron Victor Frankenstein is a man consumed by a singular, dangerous ambition: to unlock the secret of life itself. Told in chilling flashback, this landmark Hammer production charts the Baron's increasingly ruthless pursuit of his goal and the monstrous consequences that follow. Peter Cushing delivers an icily compelling performance as the calculating scientist, while Christopher Lee haunts the screen as his wretched creation. Lavish Gothic atmosphere and a darker, more visceral tone set this firmly apart from the classic Universal era.
