The premise
A noted professor and his dim-witted apprentice fall prey to their inquiring vampires, while on the trail of the ominous damsel in distress.
Horror Vault's take
A bumbling professor and his hapless assistant venture into the snow-blanketed Transylvanian wilderness hunting vampires, only to find themselves hopelessly outmatched by the elegant, bloodthirsty creatures they seek. Roman Polanski's cult classic blends slapstick comedy with genuine Gothic atmosphere, delivering a love letter to — and gentle parody of — the Hammer Horror tradition. Sharon Tate brings an irresistible allure to the imperilled young woman at the heart of the story, while Ferdy Mayne cuts an imposingly aristocratic figure as the vampire count. The result is a uniquely charming horror-comedy that manages to be both funny and authentically unsettling.
