The premise
Once an architect, Frank Bannister now passes himself off as an exorcist of evil spirits. To bolster his facade, he claims his "special" gift is the result of a car accident that killed his wife. But what he does not count on is more people dying in the small town where he lives. As he tries to piece together the supernatural mystery of these killings, he falls in love with the wife of one of the victims and deals with a crazy FBI agent.
Horror Vault's take
Frank Bannister is a small-town con man with a twist: he can actually see ghosts, and he's been milking that ability for cash by staging phony hauntings. When real, inexplicable deaths start piling up around him, his scam collides with a genuine supernatural threat that puts everyone he cares about in danger. Caught between a quirky cast of spectral companions, a grieving woman he's falling for, and an unhinged FBI agent hot on his trail, Frank must decide whether to keep running from his past or finally confront it. Peter Jackson directs with manic energy, blending laugh-out-loud comedy with genuinely unsettling horror imagery.
