The Leech Woman1960
“She drained men of their loves and lives!”
Directed by Edward Dein
The premise
An endocrinologist in a dysfunctional marriage with an aging, alcoholic wife journeys to Africa seeking a drug that will restore youth.
Horror Vault's take
A cold and dismissive endocrinologist drags his aging, alcoholic wife on a dangerous expedition deep into Africa after a mysterious tribal elder hints at a secret that could reverse the ravages of time. What they discover among an isolated tribe is a ritual far more sinister — and costly — than any modern science could anticipate. This 1960 Universal-International chiller blends pulpy science fiction with genuine menace, grounding its horror in a portrait of a marriage already rotting from within. The jungle setting and moral corruption of its characters give the film a surprisingly bitter edge for its era.
