In a sun-drenched New Mexico town, a nightclub publicity stunt goes terribly wrong when a borrowed leopard escapes into the streets — and the killings that follow may not all be the animal's doing. Producer Val Lewton and director Jacques Tourneur craft a noir-tinged horror mystery that lingers on shadow and suggestion rather than explicit violence. Each murder is rendered with quiet dread, letting the imagination do the heaviest lifting.
