The premise

Seymour works in a skid row florist shop and is in love with his beautiful co-worker, Audrey. He creates a new plant that not only talks but cannot survive without human flesh and blood.

Horror Vault's take

In a run-down skid row flower shop, a hapless young assistant stumbles into unlikely notoriety when his homegrown botanical experiment turns out to have a very unusual — and very demanding — appetite. What begins as a comedic tale of a lovesick underdog spirals into something far darker as the plant's insatiable hunger forces its creator into increasingly desperate choices. Roger Corman's low-budget black-and-white gem balances sharp wit with genuinely unsettling undertones, making it a landmark of horror-comedy filmmaking. Irreverent, fast-talking, and surprisingly sinister, it's a cult classic that planted the seeds for decades of creature-feature parody.
