The premise
A new caretaker moves with his family into the mysterious Overlook Hotel for the winter.
Horror Vault's take
When a recovering alcoholic writer accepts a caretaker position at the grand but remote Overlook Hotel, he relocates his wife and young son to the sprawling property for a snowbound winter — a decision that will test every member of the family in deeply disturbing ways. The hotel has a dark history that seems to breathe and whisper, and the longer they stay, the more apparent it becomes that something malevolent has taken a keen interest in them. This Stephen King–authored miniseries adaptation gives the source novel's themes of addiction, trauma, and family fracture the space a multi-episode format allows. Fans of King's original vision will find much to appreciate in this slower, more character-driven approach to the iconic story.
