The premise
While dabbling in Satanism, Count Karstein resurrects Mircalla Karnstein who initiates him into vampirism. As a rash of deaths afflicts the village, Gustav the head of Puritan group leads his men to seek out and destroy the pestilence. One of his twin nieces has become inflicted with the witchcraft but Gustav's zeal and venom has trapped the innocent Maria, threatening her with a tortuous execution, whilst Frieda remains free to continue her orgy of evil.
Horror Vault's take
In a shadow-drenched Central European village, a Satanic count opens the door to an ancient vampiric evil, and the darkness begins to spread. Two beautiful orphaned twins arrive to live with their fanatically pious uncle, only to find themselves caught between his merciless witch-hunting crusade and the seductive corruption emanating from the local castle. As bodies mount and suspicion poisons the community, the line between the guilty and the innocent becomes dangerously blurred. This lavish Hammer production pits righteous brutality against unholy temptation in a gothic tale where neither side occupies the moral high ground.
